In a new milestone that adds to its leadership in operational process safety, the Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO) has achieved a prestigious global ranking. The company received a Benchmarking Statement from the international certification body DNV, placing ETHYDCO among the top 15 industrial companies worldwide in the field of Process Safety Management (PSM), out of 414 industrial sites assessed globally.
This achievement comes in line with the directives of H.E. Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the continued support of Geologist Alaa El-Batal, First Undersecretary of the Ministry, and the ongoing backing of the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM) under the leadership of Engineer Ibrahim Mekki, in accordance with the fifth pillar of the ministry’s strategy, which places process safety as a top priority.
The evaluation encompassed major industrial facilities across 34 countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States, and was conducted according to the ISRS (International Sustainability Rating System) by DNV-certified international assessors.
This global recognition came after a comprehensive evaluation of ETHYDCO between January 19 and 30, 2025, which included a detailed review of technical procedures and regulations, on-site inspections, and in-depth interviews with key operational teams.
This achievement crowns a dedicated journey ETHYDCO began in 2017 with the implementation of its Process Safety Management System. The company was awarded Level 6 Performance Certification by DNV in 2022, advanced to Level 7 in 2025, and has now reached this prestigious global standing in the same year.
ETHYDCO is also the first Egyptian company to fully implement a “Safety Case” as part of its 2024 strategic objectives.
Commenting on the achievement, Chemist Hisham Riyad, Chairman and Managing Director, emphasized that joining the ranks of global excellence reflects the sincere and collective efforts to establish a comprehensive PSM system aligned with both national directives and international standards.
He affirmed the company’s firm commitment to the continuous development of its Integrated Management System, applying the latest technologies and global best practices in safety and process safety, which reinforces stakeholder trust—including partners, customers, and investors.
Chemist Hisham Riyad extended his heartfelt gratitude to Geologist Alaa El-Batal and Engineer Ibrahim Mekki for their unwavering support, and expressed his deep appreciation for the dedication of ETHYDCO’s employees and its technical and administrative teams who made this distinguished achievement possible.
