In line with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which aims to promote a knowledge-based economy and scientific research, and within the framework of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources' strategy to foster collaboration between petroleum sector companies, universities, and research institutions, the Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO) sponsored the 5th International Conference on Chemical, Energy, and Environmental Engineering.
The conference was held over two days from July 15 to 17, 2025, at the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) in New Borg El Arab, Alexandria. It was organized by the Faculty of Energy Resources, Environmental, Chemical and Petrochemical Engineering, in cooperation with Kyushu University and the Tokyo Institute of Technology from Japan.
ETHYDCO’s Chairman, Chemist Hisham Riyad, participated in the event along with a delegation of senior managers, engineers, and chemists from the company’s various operational sites.
This conference serves as a platform for prominent professors, scientists, and specialists from Egypt, Japan, and other countries to exchange knowledge in the fields of energy, environment, chemistry, and petrochemicals. It aims to explore the latest innovations and research, promote knowledge sharing, and bridge the gap between academic theory and industrial application.
During his remarks, Chairman Hisham Riyad emphasized that at ETHYDCO, “We believe that real investment is not only in building factories or production lines, but in building people, advancing scientific thinking, and strengthening our ties with research centers and academic institutions.
He further stressed ETHYDCO’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability, a core pillar of modern industrial strategies. The company has adopted a comprehensive action plan to reduce carbon emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and improve environmental management in line with the highest international standards. Notable achievements include:
ETHYDCO is also one of the first petroleum sector companies to receive a Green Building certification for its administrative headquarters and has actively contributed to environmental initiatives, such as participating in Alexandria Governorate’s “Plastic-Free Beaches” campaign.
Furthermore, ETHYDCO continuously seeks to engage with both local and international universities, offering hands-on training programs for students at its operational sites and cooperating on applied joint research projects. These collaborations focus on areas such as energy efficiency, waste recycling, and cleaner, environmentally friendly production technologies.
The conference also witnessed the participation of other petroleum sector companies, including Car Gas and Abu Qir Fertilizers. On the sidelines of the event, ETHYDCO hosted an exhibition booth displaying its publications, promotional materials, and a documentary film highlighting the company’s achievements and product portfolio.
