As part of its firm commitment to promoting a culture of safety and occupational health, the Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO) participated in the Safety Day activities held on Thursday, September 25, 2025. The event was attended by the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, leaders of the petroleum sector, and representatives of sister companies via video conference. During the event, it was emphasized that safety is the cornerstone for the success of the remaining six pillars of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy.
In this context, ETHYDCO organized several activities at its work and production sites to reaffirm that safety is a top priority in all company operations and activities. Safety is everyone’s responsibility, a continuous and evolving process, encompassing integrated management systems, specialized training programs, and awareness initiatives aimed at raising employees’ understanding of prevention and risk reduction.
The session highlighted that the application of safety standards is essential to protect lives and ensure production continuity. Continuous training, specialized courses, and realistic simulation programs were emphasized as fundamental pillars to guarantee employees’ ability to handle potential risks, while enhancing their preparedness to deal with various emergency situations.
This session focused on the importance of establishing a comprehensive road safety system covering its three components: driver, vehicle, and road. It also stressed the need to implement driver performance monitoring systems and make use of modern devices such as simulators to promote a stronger safety culture.
The session emphasized the importance of cooperation among all parties to secure the national petroleum and gas pipeline network. The Process Safety Department of the General Directorate of Safety and Occupational Health issued a publication covering the fundamentals of process safety, highlighting scenarios that could lead to process safety incidents, and raising awareness of relevant rules, procedures, and employee roles.
At the conclusion of the activities, Chemist Hisham Riyad, Chairman and Managing Director of ETHYDCO, Engineer Mohamed Zaki, Vice President of the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM) for Operations, along with a number of company leaders at various levels, conducted an inspection tour of the ethylene plant. The Chairman stressed the need to apply occupational safety and health regulations at the highest level in order to safeguard employees, protect assets and properties, and achieve the company’s production goals and plans.
