In alignment with Egypt’s vision for sustainable development and the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ directives to expand sustainability projects, reduce emissions, and minimize the carbon footprint—supporting the fourth and fifth pillars of the Ministry’s strategy through the adoption of clean and renewable energy sources—the Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO) has signed a contract with SES Sustainable Energy Solutions to establish a solar power plant.
The project involves generating electricity from solar energy with a capacity of 500 kW and an annual production of 732,000 kWh, dedicated to powering the company’s administrative buildings.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Eng. Osama Kamal, Chairman of SES and former Minister of Petroleum, and on behalf of ETHYDCO, Chemist Hesham Riyad, Chairman and CEO. The project is based on installing solar panels in the form of car-shade structures, achieving dual benefits: providing shaded parking areas while efficiently generating solar power. The plant is expected to reduce 330 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
Additionally, the project contributes to enhancing the sustainability ranking of ETHYDCO’s administrative building, which has already obtained the Bronze Green Building Certification. The implementation period is planned for eight months, leading up to commissioning and start-up trials. SES Sustainable Energy Solutions won the bid through a tender issued by ETHYDCO to accredited and specialized companies.
This initiative comes as part of a wider set of projects carried out by ETHYDCO to improve energy efficiency and preserve the environment.
It is worth noting that ETHYDCO was recently honored by the Ministry of Industry after obtaining the Carbon Footprint Verification Certificate across scopes 1, 2, and 3, in accordance with the highest international standards, marking the company as a leading model in sustainability.
