As part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to support development plans and enhance services in areas surrounding petroleum facilities, and in line with the petroleum sector’s commitment, under the leadership of Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, to supporting the State’s efforts to improve quality of life, and in light of the role of the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM), headed by Chemist Alaa Abdel Fattah, in supporting the efforts of its affiliated companies.
Eng. Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, visited the Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO) complex and participated in laying the foundation stone for the lighting, development, project of Al-Nahda Road in Amreya, as part of the projects implemented within Alexandria’s petroleum geographical area.
Upon his arrival at the ETHYDCO complex, the Governor was received by Chemist Hesham Riyad, Chairman and Managing Director of ETHYDCO, and Eng. Reham Alfa, Chairperson of Alexandria Petroleum Company and Head of the Alexandria Petroleum Geographical Committee.
The Governor of Alexandria emphasized the importance of maintaining and strengthening cooperation between the Governorate and the petroleum sector. He commended the sector’s community development role and its contributions to supporting Alexandria’s development plans, stressing that cooperation between executive authorities, State institutions, and the petroleum sector represents a model of integration in implementing projects that deliver a direct and tangible impact on citizens.
Chemist Hesham Riyad explained that, ETHYDCO has been working to enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian products by providing polyethylene at competitive prices and with high-quality specifications. The company also provides technical support to overcome challenges and develop production capabilities. He further highlighted the importance of small and medium-sized industries in supporting national industry and creating employment opportunities.
Following the visit, the Governor, accompanied by members of the Geographical Committee, members of the Senate and House of Representatives, and a number of petroleum company chairpersons, proceeded to participate in laying the foundation stone for the Al-Nahda Road lighting, development project. The project is being implemented as part of Alexandria’s petroleum geographical area projects and under the supervision of the Geographical Committee for the Development of the Alexandria Petroleum Area.
The road extends for 5,200 metres, from the entrance of the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road to Al-Hawis Bridge, serving approximately 40 villages with a population of nearly 150,000 residents. The project includes the comprehensive rehabilitation and paving of the road, the development of two railway crossings, the preparation of three-metre-wide areas on both sides of the road, and the installation of a modern lighting system. These works are expected to improve traffic flow, reduce accidents, and enhance services provided to residents of Amreya.
For his part, Chemist Hesham Riyad affirmed that ETHYDCO’s participation reflects the cooperation and integration among companies operating within Alexandria’s petroleum geographical area and supports the State’s efforts to develop infrastructure and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.
The project forms part of the projects implemented within Alexandria’s petroleum geographical area to support priority development and service initiatives, contributing to meeting citizens’ needs and improving the quality of services provided to them.
ETHYDCO reaffirms its continued active participation alongside companies operating within Alexandria’s petroleum geographical area, in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM), and Alexandria Governorate. This cooperation strengthens integration among the various entities and supports the State’s efforts to achieve sustainable development and enhance citizens’ quality of life.
